Our Story
A House of Looms, Gathered
We do not dress women in fabric. We drape them in the memory of a thousand looms.
LAKIRA began not as a shop but as a devotion — a long apprenticeship to the silk of India and to the people who keep its memory. We do not manufacture. We gather. Each drape here is sought out, one loom at a time, from the clusters where a weave was born and where its truest hands still work.
To hold a Banarasi is to hold Varanasi; to unfold a Kanjivaram is to stand at Kanchipuram’s temple gates. We carry the weave and the place together, because the two cannot honestly be parted.
Our house keeps company with the great weaving clusters of the subcontinent — the pit looms along the Ganga, the jacquard workshops of Kanchipuram, the tapestry weft of Paithan, the double-ikat courts of Patan, the whisper-fine cotton-silk of Chanderi, the narrative pallus of Bishnupur.
In every one of them a lineage is at work: a grandfather’s pattern read from memory, a mother’s tension held by feel, a discipline measured not in decades but in drapes. When we choose a piece, we are choosing to carry that lineage forward, unhurried and intact.
What We Believe
True luxury is never loud.
It is lived, and it is inherited.
We exist for the woman who wears tradition with distinction — who knows a saree is not an outfit but an heirloom in waiting. Our part is quiet: to find the piece worthy of that keeping, and to tell you honestly where it came from and by whose hands.
Every LAKIRA piece is culturally and historically true. We fact-check each weave — its origin, its technique, its motifs, its provenance — because to sell heritage carelessly is to spend it. We would rather carry fewer drapes and know each one completely than fill a grid.
This is a house of curation, not of volume. What you find here has been chosen; nothing has merely been assembled. That is the whole of our promise, and it is enough.
